Abstract : The invention relates generally to epoxy and urethane resins and more particularly fluorinated epoxy and urethane resins. It is an object of this invention to provide fluorinated polyol and epoxy polymers which do not require an expensive and scarce precursor. Another object of this invention is to provide fluorinated epoxy and ureathane resins having exceptional heat, light, and chemical resistance and a low surface energy. And another object of this invention is to provide fluorinated epoxy and urethane resins which are easily applied as coatings. A further object of this invention is to provide highly fluorinated epoxy and urethane resins at a reduced cost. These and other objects are achieved by the random fluorinated polymers of the formula which has the exceptional chemical and physical properties of the polymers disclosed in U.S. Pat. Nos. 3,852,222 and 3,872,045 but do not require hexafluoropentadiol as a precursor.
