Abstract : A dielectrophoretic filter having resistance in series with both the high voltage and ground electrodes so as to both limit the rate of energy supplied to the filter and decrease the voltage across the filter in event of a spark discharge. The electrodes are made up of interconnected sections of low-conductivity film deposited on a non-conducting air-permeable screen so that a discharge in one section can only be supplied with energy flowing through one or more high-resistance interconnection paths thus limiting the discharge to a single section. A thin insulative coating having a breakdown voltage in excess of the filter's operating voltage is applied to the surfaces of the electrodes to further limit the discharge tendency. (Author)
