Abstract : This invention relates to the measurement of distance by means of doppler principles, and more particularly in relation to the use thereof in proximity fuzing systems. The utilization of the doppler effect is well known to the art of proximity fuzes. In prior art missile proximity fuze systems, a doppler signal is derived by comparing in an oscillating detector, the transmitted wave with the wave reflected from a target. In such systems detonation is initiated when the doppler signal is in a predetermined frequency range and reaches a predetermined amplitude. For a given type of missile used against a target having a given reflection coefficient, the choice of the frequency range and amplitude of the doppler signal which initiates detonation determines the predetermined altitude at which detonation occurs.
