Abstract : In a multi-conductor electrical cable, the signal carrying wires have bonded insulation and the accompanying ground wire is not insulated. An electrostatic field in the form of a conductive adhesive completely encompasses all of the wires in the length of cable, filling the cable volume to provide a flexible cable that is of solid structure throughout any cross-sectional segment. Thus the shield and conductors are formed into an integral structure which provides shielding of the signal carrying wires against high electrostatic discharges. Passage of the cable through bulkheads and similar structures which must be sealed from vapors, gases, and moisture can be accomplished without breaking the seal simply by bonding or potting the opening through bulkheads with the same conductive adhesive to provide a solid seal.
