Abstract : 1,3-DIAMINO-5-FLUORO-2,4,6-TRINITROBENZENE AND TWO METHODS OF PREPARATION. The first method comprises reacting one mole of 1,3,5-trifluoro-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene with two moles of acetamide to form 1,3-diacetylamino-5-fluoro-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene, and then using a strong acid to cleave off the acetyl groups to give the product 1,3-diamino-5-fluoro-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene. In the second method, one mole of 1,3,5-trifluoro-2,4,6-trinitro-benzene is reacted with two moles of tert-butylamine at a temperature of from -60 degrees C to room temperature (25 degrees C) to form 1,2-di-tert-butylamino-5-fluoro-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene and then a strong acid is used to cleave off the tert-butyl groups to give the product 1,3-diamino-5-fluoro-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene, which is useful as an explosive.
