Abstract : A solid state vacuum ultraviolet laser. The laser includes a cylindrical laser rod which is surrounded by a pumping gas. The pumping gas is excited by a fast electron beam to emit vacuum ultraviolet radiations which is concentrated onto the laser rod by a parabolic reflector. The laser rod is thus stimulated. Vacuum ultraviolet radiation emitted by the laser rod is collected and fed back into the laser rod via a resonant laser cavity in optical alignment with the laser rod. (Author)
