Abstract : A method for determining mesoscale dynamic topography places a satellite altimeter into a properly selected, exact repeating orbit. The proper mesoscale sampling strategy depends upon the nature of the frequency/wavenumber response of the mesoscale ocean which is different in different regions of the global ocean. The result is altimetry data completely free of geoid contamination and having an order of magnitude alleviation of the problem of temporal undersampling. (Author)
