Abstract : A target simulator device for simulating infrared radiation from infrared emitting targets. Such devices are often referred to as black body radiation sources and are employed as instruments for testing and calibrating infrared devices. In the present invention, the target simulator device or black body simulates given types of infrared radiation emitting targets and comprises, in general, a plate of beryllium oxide (BeO) mounted in a supportive case. It is provided with external power for heating the plate. The power consumed by heating the BeO plate of this invention amounts to only 44 percent of that required by a conventional commercial black body with the same effective target area. (Author)
