Abstract : This patent application relates to a process for preparing high purity, stoichiometric aluminum silicate (mullite). The method prepares mullite (3Al203.2Si02) by partially hydrolyzing a dilute silicon alkoxide solution, combining an aluminum alkoxide with the partially hydrolyzed silicon alkoxide, eliminating terminal alkoxide groups and firing the material to about 985 C.
