Abstract : This invention relates to a nucleic acid probe and method for the rapid detection of typhoid fever bacteria by use of a nucleic acid hybridization probe, equivalent to the DNA region encoding the Vi antigen of enteric bacteria such as Salmonella typhi, S. paratifphi C, or Citrobacter, freundii, in a nucleic acid hybridization reaction with a clinical specimen containing typhoid fever bacteria.
