Abstract : A metallic glass ribbon of the formula Fe(w)B(x)Si(y)C(z) wherein 0.78 or = w or = 0.83, 0.13 or = x or = 0.17, 0.03 or = y or = 0.07, 0.005 or = z or = 0.03, and w+x+y+z=1, is annealed to remove mechanical strains and exposed to a magnetic field in the plane of the ribbon and transverse to the long axis of the ribbon. The resulting metallic glass ribbons have very large magnetic coupling coefficients (k(33) 0.9). The treated ribbons are useful in magnetostrictive transducers and in passive listening devices such as hydrophones or pressure sensors. Patents.
