Abstract : A method and apparatus for producing an exoergic nuclear reaction. A target made of solid material is positioned in a vacuum chamber containing deuterium gas and having an operating pressure below atmospheric pressure. The target is ion bombarded with a deuterium ion beam produced by an electron cyclotron resonance microwave plasma source.
