Abstract : Linear and switching amplifiers associated with acoustic transducers require a gradual turn-on rather than an abrupt full-power level signal. A transducer preamplifier power controller circuit prevents the operation of fuses and the tripping of circuit breakers when the relatively high power driving levels for a sonar transducer are initiated. The controller circuit gradually increases a signal level from a zero level to a maximum during the initiation of a sonar signal using a threshold level that is set to a fraction of th expected maximum, and two discrete clock frequencies, for example at 1 MHz and 2 KHz actuate interconnected digital control elements incrementally to increase the signal level during a predetermined period. This cycle is re-initiated by the next sonar signal.
