Abstract : The available data on methane are critically reviewed for information applicable to radio astronomy. Molecular data such as rotational constants, centrifugal distortion constants, and the distortion electric dipole moment are presented for (12)CH4 and (13)CH4. Observed microwave, infrared-microwave double resonance and molecular beam measurement of (delta J = 0) frequencies are tabulated along with experimental uncertainties which represent estimated 95% confidence limits. For (12)CH4, these data have been analyzed to predict all Q-branch rotational transitions for J20; the predictions are presented with 95% confidence limits which have been calculated from the analysis.
