Abstract : Electrons play an important role in excitation mechanisms which sustain laser action in gas discharges. This compilation was prepared in order to make readily available electron collision cross sections for use in modeling gas discharge lasers. Gas discharges are extremely complicated chemical systems and as a consequence they are difficult to model. One of the basic problems is to separate model errors from input data errors. This is why it is so important to have available accurate atomic collision data so that at least that source of uncertainty can be eliminated. Traceable models are greatly simplified and normally only a few parameters are used to determine the accuracy of the models. This introduces considerably uncertainty in the ability of the models to extrapolate performance. (Author)
