Abstract : This publication is the first of a series on the intensive examination of low-temperature heat-capacity data of the literature to be issued in connection with the mission of the National Standard Reference Data System. The objective of this series of publications is to present critically evaluated tables of heat capacity and the derived thermodynamic properties between 0 and 300 degrees K to meet the needs of physical chemists, physicists, and engineers. In the investigation of chemical equilibria and thermodynamic properties the interest is most often at the higher temperatures (room temperature and above). The effect of small uncertainties in the evaluation of the heat capacities at the lowest temperatures (below about 50 degrees K) is usually less significant to these quantities.
