Abstract : This book is intended to aid scientists, engineers, and students who require information on the dissociation of molecules induced by collision with other heavy particles, including atoms, molecules, and ions. It is an index to the scientific literature and a guide to the understanding and evaluation of the literature rather than a data compilation. The material falls into three main parts. Chapter 1 provides a general introduction to the subject of dissociative collisions. Chapters 2 through 6 discuss the experimental approach used to obtain dissociation cross section data, and Chapter 7 discusses the theoretical approach employed to obtain dissociation data. The experimental and theoretical portions of the text are self-contained and may be read essentially independently of one another according to the reader's specific interests. The purpose of the experimental portion of the book are to provide a description of experimental methods, a complete index to the experimental data, a comprehensive discussion of the factors that need to be considered in evaluating a measurement, and a summary of the main qualitative results of the experimental work.
