Abstract : The field of liquefied natural gas, its production, transport and storage, is so broad and complex that it appears somewhat presumptions to attempt to provide materials and fluids property data which would include even a selected number of items. However, restricting the scope of application of these materials and fluids to cryogenic temperatures narrows the selection process. In this first edition, those materials most widely used as primary containment structural materials, the aluminum alloys (3033, 5083, 6061), Invar (Fe-36Ni), nickel steels (2 1/4, 3.5, 5, 9% nickel) and stainless steels (304, 304L, 310, 316) were selected on the basis of availability of evaluated data, with additional properties data to be provided in subsequent editions. Similarly the properties of the pure fluids methane and nitrogen and the mixtures of methane-nitrogen were chosen based on availability of critically evaluated data and relative importance to the field as a whole. It is anticipated that supplements will be forthcoming which will include additional structural materials, insulations, the pure fluids ethane, propane and the butanes, and mixtures of these fluids with methane and nitrogen. The loose-leaf format should prove useful in accumulating, over a period of time, an extensive collection of property data in graphic format.
