Abstract : The organized compilation of thermodynamic data has a long and distinguished history. Since the results of new measurements are published in thousands of different journals and report series, there is a clear need to alert users of data to new results of interest to them-results which may not get into the standard tabulations for many years. The Bulletin of Chemical Thermodynamics fills this need for up-to-date information. Both of its major parts, the Reports of current research and the Substance-Property Indexes to the recent literature, are valuable to the user. The thermodynamics laboratories contributing to the Reports help others avoid unnecessary measurements by prompt announcements of recent work. The groups that prepare the Indexes also are providing a valuable product--a carefully codified guide to published thermodynamic and thermochemical measurements, indexed by substance and property, which is the type of index most frequently wanted by searchers of thermodynamic data. The objective of the National Standard Reference Data System is to make reliable information available to all types of users.
