Abstract : Physical description: 1 VHS video; col.; sd.; mono; 17 min.; standard playback sp.; 1/2 in. The Naval Research Laboratory has evaluated vision enhancing devices, using various technologies, for possible use by shipboard firefighters. It has been shown that infrared technology can be used to see through the types of smoke typical of Navy fires and that such devices significantly increase the firefighters effectiveness. This report documents the operating techniques for, and operational limitations of, the interim Naval Firefighters Thermal Imagers (NFTI).
