Abstract : Physical description: 1 VHS video; 1/2 in.; col.; mono.; playing time 18 mins.; standard playback sp. Software engineers spend significant time communicating technical information, yet many find writing difficult. Although writing is hard, even for good writers, it is not a mysterious art. Software Engineers can become more effective writers by approaching writing as an engineering task. In Applying Software Skills to Writing, Linda Pesante draws the similarity between the software life cycle and the writing process. She discusses how approaches such as prototyping and iterative development apply to writing, and describes how to analyze a writing task. She also notes how awareness of individual work styles can be used to the writer's advantage. By applying their software skills to writing, engineers can get results.
