Abstract : This paper deals with optimization of steel away frames subject to stress, displacement and buckling constraints. The basic objective of the work is to develop an efficient method for sway frames optimization, which could be easily used on minicomputers. The problem is formulated as a mathematical programming one, although some ideas and results from the optimality criteria based methods are employed.
