Abstract : This paper presents a case for greater utilization of automated performance measurement (APM) in flight simulators. The paper mentions the beginnings of APM, and describes in some detail the current variations, such as checkrides, automissions, parameter recording, procedure monitoring, and others. It discusses the attitude toward APM of different users, with particular reference to each of the identified variations. Finally, it presents conclusions designed to improve users' understanding of APM and increase appreciation of how it can assist instructors.
