Abstract : Microprocessors and other digital devices are finding their way into almost all wire and cable manufacturing processes. The primary advantage of selecting computer-controlled or digitally-controlled equipment is improved productivity. However, productivity can be adversely affected if this new equipment cannot be maintained or cannot be repaired quickly. Maintenance personnel require new skills and knowledge to repair and maintain computer-controlled or digitally-controlled equipment. A training program, properly structured to include education, documentation, and motivation, must be implemented for those responsible for the maintenance and repair of this highly sophisticated equipment. The training program to be discussed has evolved as a result of our experiences with various computer-controlled and digitally-controlled equipment.
