Abstract : Crosstalk in a multipair telephone cable is defined as the amount of electrical signal from an energized pair that is induced or coupled to an unenergized pair. In this test, each pair is selected and energized and then all other pairs are, one by one, selected and any signal present is recorded. Any crosstalk set must also measure insertion loss as this value must be subtracted from the crosstalk loss measurement. Analyzing Sweep measurements can be very informative. For example, any deviation from the normal swept frequency response can help determine if the cable strander is operating properly. (Author)
