Abstract : Powerful multivariable robust control synthesis techniques which have recently been devised (1) are applied to a tracking problem for a spinning projectile. A linearized lateral axis model of the projectile is used to design a reduced order LQG compensator to command angle of attack and sideslip using only fixed plane pitch rate and yaw rate measurements. Singular values of various transfer function matrices are used to explain the design procedure to obtain robust compensation that recovers the full state feedback guaranteed gain and phase margins.
