Abstract : After a brief definition of pilot models, the two most common models (classical and optimal) are briefly described. The basic limitations and advantages of each are summarized. Next, some of the potential uses of these models are discussed along with a few non-aircraft oriented applications. The available data base to confirm models is reviewed and it is concluded that despite many very successful applications to date, overall understanding, use, and actual in-flight data confirmations are limited.
