Abstract : For the purpose of adaptive intelligence measurement (CAT) a model is proposed, which uses response-time data for estimating person parameters and item parameters on one scale. It is assumed that there is a close connection between two relations: ability and difficulty on the one hand, response-time and critical response-time (CRT) on the other hand. The CRT of an item is defined as the mean RT of subjects whose ability equals the difficulty of this item. In such test situations the probability of a correct answer equals .5. Relevant subject-item-combinations (i.e. critical response times) can be identified by rank-ordering the lines and columns of a solution-matrix according to sums correct. The border (diagonal) between the correct and incorrect triangle of the matrix is the guide-line of the model.
