Abstract : The application of an electric DC field on a quartz crystal resonator induces a fast variation of the resonance frequency followed by a slow quasiexponential decay typical of ionic impurity relaxation (J. Kusters, FCS 1970). The frequency variation under the DC field was interpreted in terms of an electroelastic effect corresponding to a change of the elastic constants through nonlinear piezoelectricity (K. Kruska, FCS 1977). Starting from general rotationally invariant nonlinear electroelastic equations for small fields superposed on a bias (J.C. Baumhauer, H.F. Tiersten, JASA 54, 4, 1973) and using the experimental data on the electroelastic effect available in the literature, the values of the independent components of the material electroelastic tensor are obtained.
