Abstract : The underlying diffusion mechanisms involved in ion beam mixing of layered materials are proving very elusive. It is known that mixing has both temperature dependent and independent components, but theoretical understanding of either component is lacking. We have initiated systematic studies of the temperature, dose-rate and projectile mass dependences of mixing to provide a basis for future theoretical considerations. (Author)
