Abstract : With reference to the development of a model to estimate ice loadings based on general climatological data, this paper presents the head lines of the work with atmospheric icing in Norway. Having a country with big climatic differences over short distances, effort has been put into systematizing all available information about heavy ice loadings in the past, general maintenance experiences and icing measurements in various parts of the country. In order to generate time series of ice loadings, the icing information must be correlated with general climatological data. As water content and droplet spectra of the cloud air are not measured regularly, it is supposed that they are correlated with other meteorological parameters. Some test results are presented.
