Abstract : This paper discusses the behavior of a mounded horizontal cylinder exposed to conventional-weapon blast and shock effects. This discussion is based on data obtained in the Horizontal Cylinder Test (HCT) series conducted by the Air Force Weapons Laboratory at Kirtland AFB, NM (1). This paper provides a summary of some of the HCT data, and examines the data to identify the important load and response mechanisms and possible failure modes for this configuration in a conventional-weapon environment.
