Abstract : I report here the effects of DMSO on synthesis and release of growth hormone (GH) and prolactin in the anterior pituitary from mice during lactation, in which pituitary is especially active, especially in response to the frequent suckling by pups. Almost all of the studies on the biological action of DMSO have been carried out in vitro, despite the general large discrepancy in the results and the significance proposed between the in vitro and the in vivo studies. Thus, in this paper, the effects of the in vivo exposure to DMSO on pituitary hormone secretion were investigated, as well as the effects of the in vitro exposure and the resultant mammary gland function of lactating mice given DMSO were studied.
