Abstract : Despite advances in instrumentation, suture materials, and operative techniques, thrombus formation at the anastomotic site in small vessels remains a major factor that compromises surgical results. Adjunctive pharmacological attempts to reduce thrombus formation intraoperatively have been studied, but the effectiveness of these agents remains to be established in microsurgery. The present study was undertaken to compare and evaluate the antiplatelet properties of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), pentobarbital, and methyl prednisolone in altering the thrombotic response inflicted by surgical trauma.
