Abstract : Because of the positive effect on blood pressure of DMSO, it was decided to observe the response of a DMSO infusion in the face of a pentobarbitone infusion, with the hopes that there would be an enhancement of the reduction of ICP with these agents, and at the same time the DMSO could counteract the barbiturates' effect on reducing SAP, thus maintaining cerebral perfusion pressure. With the above hypothesis in mind, 3-hour infusions of DMSO and 3-hour infusions of DMSO with pentobarbital were undertaken in an experimental model of brain edema.
