Abstract : The inability of ordinary boundary layer methods to compute the viscous flow close to the aft end of fat bodies, like ships, has been clearly demonstrated in several recent results. In the paper, a new method is described, which has shown results, considerably better than those obtained by ordinary boundary layer methods. Its most important feature is that the continuity is maintained exactly (within the numerical approximation) even if the surface has a considerable curvature. The equations are cast in a Cartesian coordinate system, whose x-axis is directed along the local streamline at every point in the thick boundary layer.
