Abstract : The results of ground charging tests and airborne biased-discharger flight tests are presented to indicate the p-static noise performance improvement obtained by using static-wick dischargers on an aircraft for the reception of LORAN-C. An instrumented aircraft was flown near areas of thunderstorm conditions to collect data on noise due to p-static discharging. The data indicate that significant improvement in p-static noise reduction is possible by using static-wick dischargers on the airframe to maintain adequate LORAN-C signal-to-noise in p-static discharging conditions.
