Abstract : Contaminated dredged sediments were covered with less contaminated sediments in a controlled and monitored series of operations in Long Island Sound at a depth of 20 m. Observations have yielded useful information on formation of mounds, stability under stress of wave and current energy, and technology of marking, measurement, and data acquisition. Efficiency of the caps of two dissimilar sediments is evaluated in terms of physical behavior and chemical leaching.
