Abstract : Modern acquisition techniques produce high volume data sets that must be processed not only very quickly, but also reliably. The computational speed requirements can be achieved only through the use of either faster processing algorithms, or computational components with improved performance, or parallelism. The likelihood of further major advances in regard to the first two options is small. Therefore, the only realistic means for achieving high throughput is the use of parallelism.
