Abstract : This paper discusses the basic principles of sensor performance evaluation necessary to assure meaningful measurements with the sensor. The subject is divided into the four major areas of: static calibration, dynamic calibration, investigation of environmental effects, and investigation of durability. Each of the areas is discussed in sufficient detail to be of benefit to the measurement engineer. A selected bibliography is included. (Author)
