Abstract : The problem of selecting a maneuver policy for single-platform bearings only search and localization in the ocean is viewed as a stochastic optimal control problem. A solution is developed based on a realistic environment model and extended Kalman filter tracker. Simulation results highlight the dominance of engagement geometry (e.g. direct-path vs. convergence zone) over maneuver policy with respect to total performance. (Author)
