Abstract : During at least the next twenty years the only economically available fuels for aviation turbine engines will be hydrocarbons but the composition will change due to increased demand relative to other petroleum products, changes in available crudes, changes in refinery processing and the introduction of synthetic crudes from heavy oils, tar sands, shale and coal. This paper attempts to predict some of the changes in fuel properties which are likely to occur and the problems these will cause in current turbine engines. (Author)
