Abstract : Every effective technique possible must be developed and utilized to improve guard attitudes toward their overall responsibilities and their chances of success in any encounter. Realistic and thorough initial training is important. Effective on-site training is vital in preparing for actual site defense. On-the-ground training has direct application to the mission but must be limited because of interference with actual security. It is not easy to present classroom training which is interesting and directly applicable to the mission. The DOD Guard Tactics Simulation (board game) fills some training and motivation gaps.
