Abstract : The response of wood to its temperature and humidity environment is extremely important in efficient utilization of wood, as many properties and characteristics (such as shrinkage, machinability, and strength) vary with relative humidity. Historic data is reviewed and factors affecting wood's response in the temperature range of 32 degrees to 212 degrees F (0 to 100 degrees) are discussed. (Author)
