Abstract : Although several independent studies designed to document the results of waterhyacinth biocontrol efforts have been conducted in the United States, the resultant information has not been extensively reported or well documented. In fact, no published record exists which lists original release sites. It was the purpose of this project to assemble all information and data on release of both species of weevils and subsequent follow-up studies of their effects on waterhyacinth and to compile these data as a comprehensive report. This paper represents a brief summary of that report. A pyralid moth, Sameodes albiguttalis was later released in 1977 and proved effective but under rather restrictive circumstances. This insect was the subject of a detailed report submitted to the Corps of Engineers Aquatic Plant Control Research Program in FY 1983 and will not be extensively dealt with here.
