Abstract : Aluminum and mild steel rooftop frames were subjected to distributed and concentrated impulsive loads respectively. It has been observed that the location of the point of application of the load and the presence of attached extra mass has significant effect on the collapse mode of the frames. It has also been shown that the theoretically predicted deformation mode matches closely with those observed experimentally for aluminum frames and also mild steel frames. The effect of strain rate sensitivity on the instantaneous deformation profiles was found to be significant for this type of rooftop frames.
