Abstract : Within the scope of a new program for a single engine combat aircraft, a complete afterbody model has been designed and tested in a transonic wind tunnel to integrate the experimental results obtained from the unpowered models. In addition to the aims of the traditional afterbody models, i.e. engine jet effect on aerodynamics, the model has been designed with the potential capability to investigate the tailplane effectiveness and the effects of the secondary jet outlets, tail fairings, excrescences, aerials etc. With respect to these purposes, the present paper deals with the general arrangement of the model, describing briefly the first phase tests carried out in the ARA transonic wind tunnel. It is necessary that, in order to obtain reliable results in terms of afterbody drag, there be an accurate sealing between the fixed and the weighted parts with the minimum mechanical interference.
