Abstract : This investigation sought to develop a farily complete computational tool to predict the total drag of fully appended destroyer hulls. This has been accomplished in a useful way. However, much remains to be done to validate and improve this computational tool. Theoretical methods incorporated in the drag calculation method are of a simplified variety, but they do give fair results and are amenable to broader application and improvements. Items of immediate improvement of the method are: (1) Boundary layer method--development of viscous/inviscid interaction method to improve the stern region boundary layer prediction; (2) Wave resistance method--add the additional source strengths due to viscous/inviscid interaction to wave resistance calculations to improve prediction; and (3) Appendage drag--develop new base and interference drag formulas, using new experimental data, so that incoming boundary layer velocities can be properly used for improved drag predictions.
