Abstract : Published data on the probability of multipath fading on different paths with lengths up to 45 km, at frequencies up to 37 GHz, measured in different countries, have been analyzed. For the paths which have probabilities greater than approx 1/1000% for 20 dB fades, it is found that the fading probability increases with antenna beam width. In addition, it is found that increasing the clearance of the path above surrounding terrain reduces the fading probability. Inclusion of these two variables, in addition to frequency and path length, reduces the uncertainty in prediction of fading probability by a factor of 80. (Author)
