Abstract : This paper briefly summarizes a computer-based model of corrective maintenance performance, developed to generate realistic fault-isolation behavior. The model forms the core of a maintainability projection system which quantifies the times to isolate and repair a sample of faults in an existing or planned equipment. Since the projections are a direct result of the system design, the model can be used to assess the maintenance implications of design decisions concerning internal organization, packaging and modularization, and selection of external indicators, controls, and test points.
